I got this DVD on a local store (Sorry Amazon.). So far I have no complaints. This is a good option for someone who does not have the bucks and/or enough movies yet to get a Blue Ray, and it upconverts well. The USB port is a nice feature.
The picture on my 720p TV are crisp, and I have had no issues with the player at all. I bought this DVD player as an upgrade from a previous Philips that did not have the Up-Conversion feature. I have been very pleased with its performance over the past three months. It was very easy to convert to a 0- or no-region player, which is quite important as we own many region 2 DVDs. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the extremely slow response time of the player (slow to turn on and sometimes slow to react to the remote), but this is only a minor annoyance.
The terrible remote makes dealing with DVD's a pain too. This would be a one star review, but hey, at least the thing hasn't broken yet.
I was looking for a replacement for my 18 year old Sony CD player and due to the fact that it is impossible to find a single disc CD player anywhere anymore I decided to go ahead and buy this. It is the most infuriating piece of garbage I have ever wrestled with.
Ever tried buying a CD player in a store these days. As someone who is not ready to live with the crappy sound of MP3's, I have found it quite frustrating to keep using my CD collection with this piece of junk.
It never starts playing a CD until about 4 seconds into Track 1.this is after it has taken at least 40 seconds to open and close the drawer and load the CD. The remote takes about 4 seconds to respond to button pushes and forget about not using it.you can't skip or select tracks without it.
It might break after I throw it out the window though. Buy something else.
This was very occasional, though, maybe once for 2-3 seconds in a three-hour film. Not once have I had to override the player's automatic decisions. Please note that I have only used this player with HDMI (as well as component audio). Also, I found that a 1080p picture on a 1080p capable display was less crisp than a 720p picture on a 720p display, but I imagine that was to be expected.
If you can excuse the austere menu design and the delay with which the player acknowledges user inputs (via the remote) to fast-forward or rewind at varying speeds, you'll be happy with it.The picture is fantastic. I've used this DVD upconverting player on 720p and 1080p televisions, and I can tell you it's an impressive machine.
You can choose between various resolution levels, but after fiddling with them, I found that the Auto setting generally knew what to do. It is true that newer DVD release tend to deliver better results.
I tried to play a DVD purchased perhaps 5-6 years ago, and it didn't look very good, but for anything more recent, it will look very good. More important was my unfortunate encounter with the occasional stutter of playback via the 1080p setting.
I don't know the cause of this issue.Altogether, it is a good player for the money.
FINE VIDEO AND AUDIO. EASY SET UP, GOOD PRICE AND ON TIME DELIVERY. MENU COULD BE MORE SIMPLE. BUT, IT'S OK.
